Wedding Chapel
In Las Vegas
The Little Chapel of the West
Wedding Chapel opened in Las Vegas in 1942. This Las Vegas Wedding
Chapel was modeled after a church from a California mining town.
It was a good time in 1942 to open a Wedding Chapel in Las
Vegas, as it not only had the advantage of Nevada's easy marriage
and divorce laws, but it also gained business from the young GI's
who wanted to get married before going off to war.
The small quaint Wedding
Chapel in Las Vegas still resembles much the same today as
it did when it was first built. The exterior is made of cedar
and the interior from the wood of the California Redwoods. The
pews are also believed to be the original ones that were built
in 1942. The Little Church of the West Wedding Chapel turned 50
years old in 2002 and was placed into the National register of
Historic Places.
This Las Vegas Wedding Chapel
has become the couple's favorite place in Las Vegas to get married.
Many couples choose this wedding chapel because of its unique
history and the beautifully landscaped wooded surroundings. This
year alone there have been 275 weddings performed just from Great
Britain and Germany. There is a lot of mystique about this famous
Las Vegas wedding chapel with couples coming from 22 countries
just to get married here.
The Little Wedding Chapel has
also been the scene of more celebrity marriages than any other
wedding chapel in Las Vegas or in the world. The first celebrity
wedding was in 1943 with Betty Grable marrying Harry James. Other
known old timers have consisted of Zsa Zsa Gabor marrying George
Saunders, Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney. But more recent well
known stars like Richard Gere and Cindy Crawford who choose this
intimate wedding chapel for their own very private secret ceremony.
